German M1916 Stahlhelm Shell-Battle Damaged Relic-Imperial German Steel Helmet
Original WWI German M1916 Stahlhelm Helmet Shell – Battle Damaged Relic – Imperial German Steel Helmet
Offered for sale is an authentic Imperial German Model 1916 Stahlhelm helmet shell, one of the most iconic helmets used by German forces during World War I (1914–1918). Introduced in 1916 to replace the earlier Pickelhaube, the Stahlhelm provided significantly improved protection for soldiers fighting in the brutal trench warfare of the First World War.
This example is a relic shell displaying heavy battlefield wear and damage, including a large puncture or penetration hole to the crown area along with several smaller perforations and areas of corrosion. The helmet retains its distinctive extended visor and rear neck guard, features designed to provide additional protection from shrapnel and debris.
The helmet also retains its original ventilation lugs on both sides, which were designed to accept the optional Stirnpanzer armored brow plate, a removable steel reinforcement sometimes issued to machine gun crews and trench sentries.
The interior liner and chinstrap are no longer present, which is typical for relic battlefield examples recovered many years after the war. The steel shell shows heavy oxidation, pitting, and natural patina from age and exposure.
Despite the damage, this helmet remains an excellent historical relic and a powerful artifact from the First World War. Pieces like this are prized by collectors of WWI militaria, trench warfare relics, and German Imperial military equipment.
