Offered here is an original U.S. Model 1816/1836 Type III percussion conversion musket, marked Harper’s Ferry, representing an important transitional firearm from the flintlock era into the percussion system used during the Civil War.
These muskets began life as flintlocks and were later arsenal-converted to percussion ignition, with many also rifled for improved accuracy prior to or during the Civil War. This makes them highly collectible as true “in-service” conversion pieces.
