WWII U.S. Army Signal Corps Modulator MD-23/ARA-3 Aircraft Radio Unit

Original WWII U.S. Army Signal Corps Modulator MD-23/ARA-3, manufactured by Ballantine Laboratories, Inc. under contract 1491-DAY-44. The data plate identifies the unit as operating on 28 volts DC and includes its original serial number. The front panel retains its original controls, including the Warm-Up, Tune, and Mod selector, microphone input, fuse holder, and input/output connectors.

The MD-23/ARA-3 was part of the Army Air Forces’ aircraft radio equipment, serving as a modulation unit within airborne communications systems. Built with the rugged black wrinkle finish typical of WWII Signal Corps electronics, it is an excellent example of wartime aviation radio technology.

Condition is very good original surplus with light storage wear and some paint loss on one corner. Controls, connectors, and mounting brackets remain intact. Untested and offered as a historical military aviation radio collectible.
