For sale is an original early $5 obsolete bank note from the Harrisburg Bank of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, dated May 14, 1819. This attractive early Pennsylvania bank note features a detailed engraved State Building / State House vignette, ornate “FIVE” side panels, serial number No. 497, and hand-signed cashier and president signatures.
The note reads: “The President Directors & Co. of the Harrisburg Bank promise to pay H. N—— bearer on demand FIVE dollars.” It is dated Harrisburg, May 14, 1819 and printed by Murray, Draper, Fairman & Co.
This is a nice early 19th-century Pennsylvania obsolete currency piece with strong regional interest. It displays well in its protective currency holder and would make a great addition to a Pennsylvania history, obsolete bank note, paper money, or Harrisburg-area collection.
