1939 German Iron Cross 1st Class Screwback-L/18 Marked
1939 German Iron Cross 1st Class Screwback-L/18 Marked
1939-pattern German Iron Cross 1st Class featuring a black center with raised swastika and “1939” date, surrounded by a silver-tone frame with a finely ribbed inner border. The reverse bears an “L/18” marking, the maker code associated with B. H. Mayer of Pforzheim.
This example features a screwback fastening arrangement with a central threaded receiver and a separate round backing disc with threaded stud. A small locating pin is present near the upper edge of the reverse to help prevent the cross from rotating when mounted.
The frame shows surface wear, scratches, and darkened toning, while the black center retains substantial finish with some visible wear. The backing disc shows discoloration and surface marks. Both the cross and backing disc pictured are included.
An attractive example for a German military awards collection or historical display. No case, award document, or recipient identification accompanies the piece. Please examine the photographs carefully for condition and construction details.
