1942 Colt M1911A1 U.S. Army .45 ACP – WWII British Lend-Lease – British Proofed – 3 WWII Magazines

Original WWII Colt M1911A1 U.S. Army pistol manufactured in 1942 and subsequently supplied to Great Britain under the wartime Lend-Lease program. The frame is correctly marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY / M1911A1 U.S. ARMY” and serial numbered No. 926232. The pistol retains the Colt-marked slide with Rampant Colt and correct period patent/manufacturer markings.

What makes this example particularly desirable is its documented-by-markings British service history. The pistol carries multiple British commercial/military proof and inspection markings, including British proofs visible on the frame, slide and barrel. The barrel is prominently marked “.45” and “.900” with “7 TONS PER [square]” proofing, providing an immediately recognizable indication of its passage through the British proof system. These markings are an important part of the pistol’s history and distinguish it from a standard stateside WWII Colt.

The pistol retains a very attractive parkerized military finish with sharp, highly legible markings throughout. Brown checkered stocks are fitted, and the pistol presents extremely well overall. Numerous small inspection and component markings remain visible, including the G.H.D. acceptance marking associated with Col. Guy H. Drewry.

Included are three WWII-era .45 ACP magazines, providing an excellent period accompaniment to the pistol.

A particularly appealing U.S. martial Colt that represents both American WWII production and the massive Lend-Lease effort that supplied Allied forces. British-marked Lend-Lease M1911A1s have a distinctive collecting niche, and a 1942 Colt with clear British proofs, U.S. Property markings and period magazines makes for an excellent WWII collection centerpiece.
