1944 Dated 71st Infantry “Ike” Jacket
1944 Dated 71st Infantry “Ike” Jacket
Original World War II U.S. Army M1944 “Ike” jacket, correctly dated 1944 and displaying the distinctive shoulder sleeve insignia of the famed 71st Infantry Division. Introduced late in the war, the waist-length Ike jacket became one of the most recognizable uniforms worn by American soldiers in the European Theater during the final campaigns of WWII.
This example features its original olive drab wool construction and retains the 71st Infantry Division patch on the left shoulder. The 71st Division saw extensive combat after arriving in Europe in early 1945, participating in the advance through Germany and Austria, capturing thousands of German prisoners, liberating several concentration camps, and making contact with Soviet forces near the Enns River in Austria.
The M1944 Ike jacket was favored by troops for its practicality and sharp appearance, replacing the longer service coat for both field wear and dress. Original, untouched examples remain highly collectible, especially those retaining authentic wartime insignia and a 1944 contract date.
A great addition to any WWII U.S. Army, European Theater, or 71st Infantry Division collection.
