1946 Austrian Allied Occupation Identity Card-Vienna-Named “Irma Novak”-WWII Era ID

This document dates from a fascinating transitional period immediately after the collapse of Nazi Germany.

Following the end of WWII, Austria was re-established as an independent republic but remained occupied by the four Allied powers. Vienna itself was divided into American, British, French, and Soviet sectors, with the central district jointly administered. That occupation continued until the Austrian State Treaty ended the Allied presence in 1955. 

As a result, civilian identity documents from this period provide tangible evidence of the complicated administrative system that existed in postwar Vienna.

Condition

The booklet is in well-used original condition, showing genuine period wear including:

• Edge and corner wear
• Small tears and paper loss
• Wear at the spine
• Interior staining and discoloration
• Original photograph firmly present
• Numerous readable official stamps
• Original signature
• Austrian revenue stamp
• Period handwritten entries
• Some bottom-edge loss to the rear pages/cover

Despite the wear, the booklet remains substantially complete and displays extremely well as a historical artifact.
