1946 Munich Germany Spruchkammer Denazification Clearance Document-Post WWII-U.S. Occupation

Following Germany’s defeat in May 1945, the Allied powers undertook a massive effort to remove Nazi influence from German political, professional and public life.

In the American occupation zone, the Law for Liberation from National Socialism and Militarism, enacted March 5, 1946, transferred much of the responsibility for denazification to German-administered civilian tribunals known as Spruchkammern. 

Individuals were investigated using questionnaires and registration forms concerning their political affiliations, employment, memberships and wartime activities.

Depending upon the findings, people could be classified into various categories ranging from major offenders to exonerated persons. In this particular case, the document states that the recipient was not subject to proceedings under the law.
