Fine American Model 1860 Staff & Field Officer’s sword manufactured by the well-known military outfitter Horstmann of Philadelphia. Features an elegant gilt brass hilt with detailed floral motifs, wire-wrapped sharkskin grip, folding guard, and ornate pommel. The blade retains attractive etched decoration including patriotic and military motifs along with the clearly visible Horstmann retailer marking.

The Model 1860 Staff & Field sword was carried by Union officers throughout the Civil War and remained a popular presentation and regulation officer’s pattern into the late 19th century. Horstmann swords are highly sought after due to their quality construction and strong association with Civil War era officers.

This example remains in very respectable condition with strong eye appeal. The etched blade decoration is still visible, the hilt retains much of its original gilt finish, and the sharkskin grip shows honest period wear with surviving original wire wrap.
