Anthony Imperato “Signature Series” Colt Model 1861 Special Musket – Civil War Reproduction
Anthony Imperato “Signature Series” Colt Model 1861 Special Musket – Civil War Reproduction
Offered here is a high-quality reproduction of the famous Colt Model 1861 Special Musket, produced as part of the Colt Blackpowder Arms Company “Signature Series.” This example bears the engraved Anthony Imperato signature, identifying it as part of the collectible limited production run manufactured in the late 20th century using original Colt tooling and designs.
The original Colt Model 1861 Special Musket was produced during the American Civil War and represented Colt’s version of the standard U.S. military percussion rifle-musket. Manufactured under government contract, these muskets served alongside the Springfield Model 1861 and were issued to Union troops throughout the conflict.
This reproduction faithfully follows the pattern of the historic military arm. The lock plate is marked:
“U.S. Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Mfg. Co. – Hartford, Ct.”
and features the classic American eagle motif forward of the hammer, replicating the markings found on original Civil War-era muskets. The breech area is stamped “V / P / Eagle – Steel,” indicating the traditional inspection and proof markings used on military arms.
The rifle features a full-length walnut stock, steel barrel, and correct military furniture. The percussion lock operates smoothly and retains the traditional military configuration including sling swivels and iron mountings.
Of particular interest is the Anthony Imperato signature engraved on the trigger guard, identifying it as part of the Colt Blackpowder Signature Series produced after the reopening of Colt black powder production. Anthony Imperato, founder of Colt Blackpowder Arms Company, oversaw the production of these historically accurate reproductions beginning in the 1990s. These rifles were manufactured with attention to historical detail and remain popular with collectors and black powder enthusiasts alike.
Condition remains very good overall, showing attractive metal surfaces with light handling marks consistent with careful storage and display. The walnut stock retains a pleasing finish with typical minor impressions from handling. All markings remain clear and legible.
These Colt Signature Series muskets have become increasingly collectible as Colt-licensed black powder reproductions are no longer produced. They represent an opportunity to own a historically styled Civil War musket built using Colt-authorized patterns and manufacturing techniques.
