Offered here is an exceptionally early Savage Model 1861 Navy Revolver, chambered in .36 caliber percussion, and bearing the remarkably low serial number 214. Manufactured by the Savage Revolving Firearms Company of Middletown, Connecticut during the American Civil War, this unique revolver is one of the most distinctive military handguns of the era.

Unlike the Colt and Remington percussion revolvers, the Savage features its patented double-trigger system, with the front trigger rotating the cylinder and cocking the hammer while the rear trigger fires the revolver. This innovative design was intended to provide faster follow-up shots and remains one of the most recognizable Civil War revolver mechanisms.

This example is in good functional condition, retaining an attractive untouched brown-gray patina with scattered areas of age staining. The revolver still displays crisp patent markings on the top strap, and the extremely low serial number makes it especially desirable to advanced Civil War arms collectors. The walnut grips remain solid with honest handling wear appropriate for a military sidearm over 160 years old.
