Carrier War: Task Force 58 & The Pacific Sea Battles- Lt. Oliver Jensen, USNR (1945 First-Edition Pocket Book)
Original 1945 wartime edition of Carrier War: Task Force 58 and the Pacific Sea Battles by Lt. Oliver Jensen, USNR, published by Pocket Books, Inc., New York. This oversized softcover was issued with the approval of the Council on Books in Wartime as a companion to the U.S. Navy’s official Battle Report series and was distributed to servicemen through the Army Special Services Division. The publication chronicles the rise of America’s fast carrier task forces during the Pacific campaign, covering the major operations of Task Force 58 from the Gilbert and Marshall Islands through the Marianas, Philippine Sea, Hollandia, Truk, Palau, and the liberation of the Philippines.
Illustrated with approximately 200 photographs, maps, and combat illustrations, including several color plates, the book provides an engaging contemporary account of the carrier war against Japan. The fold-out operational map remains present, adding to its historical and display appeal.
This example retains its original pictorial covers depicting a burning Pacific battle scene. Condition is good overall for a wartime softcover, with expected edge wear, cover creasing, corner loss, and surface rubbing. The binding remains intact, pages are complete, and the interior is clean with age toning consistent with wartime paper. The fold-out map is present and displays well.
An excellent addition to any World War II library, U.S. Navy collection, or Pacific Theater display, especially for collectors of wartime publications and original military reference material.
