Civil War Era Model 1840/1860 NCO Sword — 1861 Dated Chicopee Marked
Civil War Era Model 1840/1860 NCO Sword — 1861 Dated Chicopee Marked
For sale is an original Civil War era U.S. Non-Commissioned Officer sword, dated 1861 and marked Chicopee at the ricasso. This is the classic brass hilt NCO pattern used by Union non-commissioned officers during the Civil War period, featuring a straight blade, brass guard, knuckle bow, and wire-wrapped grip.
The ricasso marking appears to read Chicopee with an 1861 date, making this a very desirable early-war dated example. The sword has an attractive untouched look with honest age, patina, and wear throughout. The brass hilt has a mellow aged patina, while the blade shows darkening, scattered oxidation, and surface spotting consistent with age. The grip and wire wrap are present and display well.
A solid Civil War edged weapon for display, militaria collecting, or a period arms collection.
