For sale is an original Civil War era U.S. Non-Commissioned Officer sword, dated 1863 and marked U.S. / DFM / 1863 on one side of the ricasso. The opposite side is marked Emerson & Silver / Trenton, NJ, a known Civil War period maker/supplier of edged weapons.
This is the classic brass-hilt U.S. NCO sword pattern, featuring a straight blade, brass guard, knuckle bow, and ribbed brass grip. The sword has a great untouched attic/barn-fresh look with honest age and patina throughout. The blade shows heavy dark patina, oxidation, staining, and surface wear, while the brass hilt has an attractive mellow aged finish.
A desirable original Civil War sword with clear wartime date and maker markings. Great for a Civil War collection, U.S. militaria display, or edged weapon collection.
