The Colt Defender is a compact variant of the classic Colt 1911 pistol, designed to offer 1911 reliability and ergonomics in a smaller, more concealable package. Colt’s Defender model was introduced in the late 1990s/early 2000s as a response to growing demand for compact defensive handguns that still delivered the stopping power of the traditional .45 ACP cartridge.

• Design Origin: Based on Colt’s M1911 pattern, but scaled down with a 3-inch barrel (compared to ~5″ on full-size 1911s).
