Colt Service Model ACE .22 LR – 1945 U.S. Military – JSB Inspected – WWII .45 ACP Conversion Components
Exceptional and scarce WWII U.S. military Colt Service Model ACE chambered in .22 Long Rifle. Manufactured in 1945, this is an original military example retaining its correct parkerized finish and U.S. martial markings.
The frame is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” and “M 1911A1 U.S. ARMY,” while the slide carries the classic Colt markings, Rampant Colt trademark and “COLT SERVICE MODEL ACE .22 LONG RIFLE.” The pistol also bears the JSB inspector marking for John S. Brophy along with the official U.S. Ordnance Department inspection/acceptance marking. The Ordnance marking should not be confused with a Rock Island Arsenal rebuild stamp.
The Service Model ACE was Colt’s specialized .22 LR adaptation of the Government Model, incorporating the floating-chamber system developed to provide substantially more recoil than a conventional .22 pistol. During WWII, Service Model ACE pistols were acquired by the U.S. government for military training and familiarization. Genuine U.S. Property examples are considerably scarcer than their commercial counterparts.
This example remains in very good overall condition with an attractive, even parkerized military finish, crisp and readily visible markings, and period brown checkered grips. The pistol presents exceptionally well for an approximately 80-year-old U.S. military training arm.
Also included with the pistol is a WWII-era Colt .45 ACP slide and barrel assembly, recoil components and three period .45 ACP magazines, including C-R and C-S marked examples. These .45 components accompany the pistol but are not represented as having been originally issued with this particular Service Model ACE unless additional documentation establishes that association.
An outstanding WWII Colt and a particularly desirable variation for the advanced U.S. martial pistol or Colt collector. The combination of 1945 production, U.S. Property markings, original military finish, JSB inspection, strong condition and accompanying period .45 ACP components makes this a very appealing grouping.
