This is an original 1933 first-year publication of Hitlers Kampf um die Macht (“Hitler’s Struggle for Power”) by German author and journalist Edgar von Schmidt-Pauli, issued in the Volksausgabe (People’s Edition) with its striking original illustrated dust jacket.

Published shortly after Adolf Hitler’s appointment as German Chancellor in January 1933, this work chronicles the dramatic political events of 1932 through Hitler’s rise to power in early 1933. Rather than being written by Hitler himself, the book is a contemporary account describing the political maneuvering, elections, negotiations, and personalities that shaped the final collapse of the Weimar Republic and the emergence of the National Socialist government. It was published by Georg Stilke, Berlin in 1933 and contains approximately 205 pages.

The colorful dust jacket features portraits of Paul von Hindenburg and Adolf Hitler, creating one of the more recognizable and visually appealing designs among early Third Reich political publications. The rear advertising pages promote other contemporary political titles of the period, further enhancing the book’s historical interest.

Historical Significance

Books documenting Hitler’s rise to power published during 1933 capture an exceptionally narrow and historically important period. Unlike later wartime propaganda works, this volume was written immediately after the National Socialist seizure of power and reflects contemporary perceptions of the political events that transformed Germany. Today it is collected as a period historical document by researchers, military historians, and collectors of Third Reich-era publications.

Perfect For

  • WWII history collections
  • Third Reich book collectors
  • Political history libraries
  • Museum and educational collections
