French Le Gaulois No. 2 Engraved 8mm Palm Pistol – Antique
Fine antique French Le Gaulois No. 2 palm-operated repeating pistol chambered in 8mm, manufactured by the Manufacture Française d’Armes et Cycles of Saint-Étienne, France. This unusual late-19th/early-20th-century pocket pistol represents one of the more distinctive concealed-carry designs of its era.
This is the more ornate No. 2 variation, featuring extensive factory-style floral and geometric engraving across the frame along with the prominent “GAULOIS” barrel marking, manufacturer markings, caliber designation and No. 2 marking. It retains its unusual squeeze-operated palm mechanism, loading/breech assembly, safety selector and brass-bead front sight.
Condition is excellent for its age, with attractive engraving remaining sharp and clearly defined and substantial dark finish remaining. The rear palm piece shows age-related finish wear as photographed. Mechanically, the pistol is reported to be complete and functional.
A very attractive example of an unusual French firearms design and an excellent addition to an antique handgun, mechanical-arms or European firearms collection.
