German NSDAP Matchbox Holder-Swastika & Eagle-Berlin Marked

Original-style German NSDAP metal matchbox cover featuring a raised National Socialist eagle clutching a wreathed swastika above large Gothic “N.S.D.A.P.” lettering.

The reverse bears a circular “BERLIN 6” marking. Interestingly, another documented NSDAP matchbox holder is described with the same “Berlin 6” marking, which supports the identification of this piece as a matchbox holder rather than a cigarette case or unrelated desk item. 

Constructed from folded sheet metal with open ends, allowing a standard matchbox to slide into the outer sleeve. The front insignia and lettering are raised rather than simply engraved. The piece displays an attractive aged patina with scattered surface marks, oxidation and wear consistent with handling. An old paper inventory/collection label remains attached to the reverse.

I would not state definitively that it is an original Third Reich-period piece from these photographs alone. NSDAP objects have been extensively reproduced, and authentication depends heavily on construction, markings, dimensions and close examination. Genuine period NSDAP pieces commonly carry RZM/manufacturer markings, but markings alone are not proof of authenticity. 

Comparable WWII German matchbox-related pieces vary substantially depending on authenticity and provenance; an auction example of a German Westwall matchbox holder sold for £40, while more elaborate attributed NSDAP examples can bring considerably more.
