German SS Style Tokenkopf Skull Cap Insignia-RZM M1/52 Marked- Deschler Pattern
German SS Style Tokenkopf Skull Cap Insignia-RZM M1/52 Marked- Deschler Pattern
Offered here is a German SS-style second-pattern Totenkopf (Death’s Head) metal cap insignia bearing the RZM M1/52 marking associated with Deschler & Sohn of Munich.
The insignia features the familiar forward-facing skull and crossed-bone design with detailed eye sockets, nasal cavity, individually defined teeth and dotted cranial panel detailing. The reverse is hollow and displays an RZM trademark above the maker designation M1/52. One long attachment prong remains present and functional, while the opposite attachment point appears damaged or incomplete.
The piece measures approximately 42 mm across and weighs approximately 20 grams.
The M1/52 designation was legitimately used by Deschler & Sohn on period SS Totenkopf insignia; however, the marking has also been extensively reproduced on postwar examples. Modern reproduction M1/52-marked skulls are readily documented.
For comparison, documented original Deschler examples are approximately 31 mm wide, with published examples weighing approximately 2.1–4.2 grams depending upon construction. Because this example is considerably larger and heavier, we are offering it as an unidentified/reproduction-period collector’s example and make no representation that it is an original WWII-manufactured insignia.
An interesting display or reference example of one of the most recognizable pieces of German military insignia.
Condition: Good overall. Attractive silver-colored finish with darker recessed areas. One attachment prong remains; opposite attachment is incomplete/damaged. Please examine photographs carefully for exact condition and construction.
