H&R Model 999 “Sportsman” .22 LR Revolver - 9-Shot Top-Break Classic
For sale: Iconic Harrington & Richardson Model 999 “Sportsman” double-action revolver in .22 Long Rifle. This American-made gem, produced from the 1930s through the 1990s (later under H&R 1871), is a favorite among rimfire enthusiasts for its high capacity, top-break design with automatic ejection, and legendary reliability as a plinker, trainer, or small-game hunter.
• Caliber: .22 LR (safely digests .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle ammo)
• Barrel Length: 6 inches (vent rib for excellent sight radius and balance)
• Capacity: 9 rounds (unique high-capacity cylinder for rimfire revolvers)
• Action: Double-action/single-action with top-break loading and auto-ejector
• Finish: Blued steel (shows attractive vintage patina, light handling marks, and honest wear consistent with age—no heavy pitting or rust apparent)
• Sights: Adjustable rear sight, fixed front blade
• Grips: Checkered walnut (hand-filling, one-piece design for comfort and control)
• Condition: Very good overall for a vintage example—tight lockup, smooth trigger, clean bore and chambers (appears well-cared-for and mechanically excellent). Minor cosmetic wear on frame, barrel, and cylinder from normal use, but no functional issues.
The Model 999 stands out with its top-break mechanism (lift the latch, break open, shells eject automatically—quick reloads!), 9-shot cylinder, and rugged build that handles any .22 ammo you feed it. Often compared to classics like the Webley for its quirky charm, it’s accurate, fun, and affordable fun for plinking or introducing new shooters to revolvers.
