.303 British – Classic WWII/Post-War Icon!

This is an authentic British Rifle No. 5 Mk I “Jungle Carbine”, manufactured at Royal Ordnance Factory (F) Fazakerley in June 1946 (6/46). Serial number W 4258. These shortened, lightened Enfields were designed for jungle warfare in the Pacific and Asia theaters — compact, fast-handling, and legendary for their balance.

Key Features & Specs:

  Caliber: .303 British

Action: Bolt-action, 10-round detachable box magazine (charger/stripper clip loaded)

Barrel: 18.75” with flash hider (overall length ~39.5”)

Weight: Approximately 7 lbs (light and maneuverable)

Stock: Walnut with black rubber recoil pad and steel buttplate

Sights: Protected blade front, flip-up aperture rear adjustable to 800 yards

Markings: Clearly stamped “No5 MKI ROF(F) 6/46 W 4258” on receiver; additional proofs and matching numbers visible

Finish: Blued with attractive original patina

Famous for its “wandering zero” reputation (due to light weight and short barrel), but still a favorite among collectors and shooters for its quick pointability and reliability.

Condition:

Very good original condition for a 1946 example. Strong markings, solid wood with nice grain and color, tight action, and typical honest wartime/post-war patina. Bore appears clean from visible photos. A solid, collectible Jungle Carbine with desirable early post-war Fazakerley production.
