Offered here is an original vintage U.S. M1-pattern military steel combat helmet, complete with its removable inner liner, suspension system, leather sweatband, and adjustable web chinstrap. This classic military helmet represents one of the most recognizable and historically significant designs in American military history.

The M1 helmet was first introduced to American forces in 1941, replacing the earlier World War I-era M1917 helmet. It became standard equipment for American soldiers and Marines during World War II and remained in widespread service throughout the Korean War, Vietnam War, and much of the Cold War.

Helmet Details & Construction:

This example features the traditional rounded M1 steel outer shell with a rolled protective rim and olive-drab green military finish. The exterior retains an attractive aged appearance, displaying scattered scratches, scuffs, minor paint losses, and areas of surface wear consistent with vintage military equipment.

The steel shell features swivel-style chinstrap attachment hardware and an olive-green woven chinstrap with metal adjustment hardware.

The removable inner liner features a matching olive-drab exterior with visible suspension rivets and areas of finish wear. Its interior retains an olive-green web suspension assembly and brown leather sweatband, along with the associated metal adjustment hardware.

The liner’s exterior shows several areas where the finish has chipped away, exposing the underlying material. The overall appearance is consistent with genuine military-surplus equipment, although the exact manufacturer and production period have not been established.

Notable Features:

  • Original vintage M1-pattern military combat helmet
  • Two-piece construction with removable inner liner
  • Olive-drab green painted steel outer shell
  • Rolled steel protective rim
  • Swivel-style chinstrap attachment hardware
  • Olive-green woven web chinstrap with adjustable metal buckle
  • Removable military-style liner with suspension rivets
  • Interior web suspension system
  • Brown leather sweatband
  • Attractive vintage military appearance
  • Displays well as an American military collectible

Historical Significance:

Few pieces of military equipment are as closely associated with American military history as the M1 helmet. Its distinctive silhouette became synonymous with American troops fighting across Europe and the Pacific during World War II, through the harsh conditions of Korea, and into the jungles of Vietnam.

M1 helmets were manufactured, repaired, refurbished, and reissued over decades of military service. Consequently, surviving examples often contain a combination of components from different production periods.

The precise manufacturing dates of this helmet’s steel shell and liner have not been verified. It is being offered as a vintage M1-pattern military helmet rather than a confirmed WWII-production example.

Condition:

Good vintage military-surplus condition overall. The steel shell displays scattered scratches, finish wear, and minor surface imperfections. The olive-drab paint has a somewhat thick appearance and may represent a military or later repaint.

The removable liner displays expected age-related wear, including paint loss, scratches, and exposed underlying material in several areas. The interior suspension, leather sweatband, and web chinstrap are present, with visible wear from age and handling.

No major structural damage is apparent in the supplied photographs. All components are offered in their present condition, and exact period originality has not been authenticated.
