The National Postal Meter (NPM) M1 Carbine is a World War II-era U.S. military firearm produced by a company originally in the postal metering and mailing equipment business in Rochester, New York. NPM was one of 10 contractors selected to manufacture the lightweight, semi-automatic M1 Carbine (chambered in .30 Carbine) to equip support troops, paratroopers, and others who needed a more portable alternative to the heavier M1 Garand rifle.

Despite having no prior firearms experience, no factory, tools, or workers at the start of their contract, NPM ramped up production remarkably quickly. They delivered a total of 413,017 M1 Carbines from 1943 to 1944 (about 6.8% of the overall 6+ million M1 Carbines made during the war). NPM achieved high performance ratings in military adverse-conditions testing. They did not produce variants like the M2 (selective-fire), M3 (infrared), T3, or M1A1 (folding stock).

Excellent original condition 3-43 stamped Underwood barrel and early serial NPM receiver!
