Korean War Era U.S. Navy Service Dress Blue Jacket – Chief Petty Officer Hospital Corpsman
Korean War Era U.S. Navy Service Dress Blue Jacket – Chief Petty Officer Hospital Corpsman
For sale is an authentic U.S. Navy Service Dress Blue jacket from the Korean War era (1950s), belonging to a Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Hospital Corpsman. This double-breasted wool jacket, in dark navy blue, features gold anchor buttons, peaked lapels, and the iconic design worn by enlisted sailors for formal occasions. The left sleeve displays the rank insignia of a Chief Petty Officer, with three gold chevrons, an eagle, and a caduceus symbol identifying the sailor as a Hospital Corpsman—a medical specialist who provided critical care to Navy and Marine Corps personnel. Four gold service stripes on the sleeve indicate at least 16 years of service, spanning from the late 1930s through the 1950s, likely encompassing WWII and the Korean War. Two white stars on the shoulder boards add a decorative touch, typical for CPO dress uniforms of this period.
This jacket would have been worn by a seasoned Corpsman who served through pivotal conflicts, potentially treating wounded sailors and Marines during WWII battles like Iwo Jima or Korean War campaigns like the Inchon Landing. The interior is marked with “System of DC” and “23029,” likely a sizing or inventory number, and a tag with “WILLCAN,” possibly the sailor’s name. The jacket is in excellent condition, with no tears, stains, or significant fading, and the chevrons, buttons, and fabric are well-preserved, making it a remarkable piece of naval history. Perfect for collectors of Korean War militaria, Navy enthusiasts, or reenactors looking to honor the legacy of the Hospital Corpsmen who served with distinction.
