Original 1937 German Winter Relief (WHW) Tinnie Badge-Saar 1937
Original 1937 German Winter Relief (WHW) Tinnie Badge-Saar 1937
Offered is an original 1937 German Winter Relief (Winterhilfswerk / WHW) commemorative tinnie badge, issued to support the annual Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes (Winter Relief of the German People) fundraising campaign.
The obverse features a touching relief of two figures shaking hands, symbolizing national unity and charitable support. The design is surrounded by a laurel wreath and bears the inscriptions “Winterhilfe” across the top and “Saar 1937” along the lower edge, commemorating the Saar region following its 1935 return to Germany and the continuing Winter Relief campaigns of the period.
The reverse retains its original horizontal pin-back assembly. The badge exhibits an attractive aged patina with honest wear consistent with age, adding to its historical character.
Winterhilfswerk tinnies were sold or distributed in exchange for charitable donations and were produced in hundreds of designs, with regional issues such as this Saar example being popular among collectors today.
