Original 1945 German Personalausweis (personal identification document) issued during the immediate post-World War II Allied occupation of Germany and specifically marked “BRITISCHE ZONE” (British Zone).

This is an excellent example of the identification system established in Germany following the collapse of the Third Reich. The document was issued under British occupation authority and carries serial number AN 722772. The front prominently displays the black “BRITISCHE ZONE” overprint together with the identification letters of the issuing authority.

The document is associated with Hamburg, which became part of the British occupation zone after Germany’s surrender in May 1945. A period business/address stamp on the cover reads Hamburg 33, Hellbrookstraße 5, providing additional local historical interest.

Inside are the original identification fields for the holder, including name, occupation, place and date of birth, sex, residence, signature, physical description and other personal information. Numerous original stamps, handwritten entries and official validation markings remain present. Particularly interesting is the prominent occupation-era validation stamp applied diagonally across the identification section.

The document also retains the printed “Zur Beachtung!” regulations governing possession and use of the identification card, along with spaces for official entries, changes of residence and registration authority stamps.

A printer/form notation at the bottom reads “PSS.3487. 4.45.”, indicating an April 1945 form date—an especially interesting detail given that this falls during the final weeks of the war in Europe and immediately precedes the establishment of Allied occupation government.

This is a fascinating piece of immediate postwar German history, representing the transition from Nazi Germany to Allied-controlled Germany. British Zone identification documents are excellent crossover collectibles for enthusiasts of WWII, occupation-era Germany, Hamburg history and historical documents.

Condition:
Good original condition considering its age and intended everyday use. The document exhibits expected handling wear, fold wear, age toning, handwritten entries and period stamps. There is a substantial diagonal loss to the lower right portion of the cover and corresponding edge damage, along with a punched hole near the upper corner. Interior pages remain largely intact and legible. All wear is consistent with an original carried identification document. Please review photographs carefully for complete condition.
