Original 1950’s Polish People’s Army Military Service Book w/ Sailor’s Photo and Extensive Entries & Stamps

Original Cold War-era Polish People’s Republic military service book (Książeczka Wojskowa) issued by the Polish Ministry of National Defence. These booklets served as official military documents recording the holder’s identity, conscription status, military service, assignments, training, and subsequent reserve obligations. 

This example is particularly desirable because it remains extensively filled out and retains the original identification photograph showing the serviceman in a Polish sailor/naval-style uniform.

The booklet is Series A, No. 532757 and was issued to a Polish serviceman born in 1935. Personal information recorded inside includes his birthplace in the Lublin region, civilian education and occupation, followed by his military processing and service history.

The book contains numerous handwritten entries, signatures and official Polish military stamps. Entries begin during the mid-1950s, with documentation of his call-up and assignment to military service. His military oath is recorded in January 1956, and subsequent pages document additional service activity, administrative changes, reserve status and later military training.

Especially attractive are the numerous circular ink seals bearing the Polish crowned/eagle-style national emblem used on official military paperwork, together with recruiting-office and unit markings. Several pages also retain red security/sealing strips applied over the records.

The booklet continued to be used for years after the holder’s initial active service, with later administrative and reserve entries extending into the 1960s and 1970s. This gives the document an unusually complete feel and provides an interesting record of one individual’s relationship with the Polish armed forces throughout much of the Cold War.

The postwar Polish military underwent substantial reorganization during this exact period, including major development programs beginning in 1955, placing this serviceman’s documented career directly within an important transitional period of the Polish People’s Army. 

The booklet is in well-used original condition with substantial honest service wear. The cloth cover exhibits staining, fading, edge and corner wear. Interior pages show age toning, staining, handling wear, creasing and wear around the binding. Despite this, the original photograph remains present and the booklet retains a large number of legible entries, stamps and signatures. A very interesting named and researchable Cold War Polish military document, considerably more appealing than an empty or lightly completed example due to the original uniform photograph and extensive service history.
