Original Belgian Army Camp Beverloo Soldier Portrait Framed

Original period Belgian military portrait labeled “Souvenir du Camp de Beverloo”, depicting a young Belgian soldier photographed while stationed or training at the historic Camp Beverloo military installation in Belgium.

The soldier is shown in uniform wearing an Adrian-style steel helmet, military tunic, heavy cape/greatcoat and leather waist belt. He holds a pair of white gloves together with a swagger stick or walking cane, giving the photograph a particularly formal appearance.

The photograph is mounted in an elaborate purpose-made commemorative mat printed “Souvenir du Camp de Beverloo” beneath the portrait. Above the photograph is a military-themed decorative motif incorporating crossed weapons, flags and martial equipment. The mat retains portions of its original gold, green and burgundy coloring.

The entire presentation remains housed in an attractive oval silver-tone frame decorated with raised roses and foliage. The combination of the original military photograph, specifically identified Camp Beverloo presentation mount and ornate period frame makes this much more desirable as a display piece than an ordinary unidentified European military portrait.

Camp Beverloo was one of Belgium’s principal military training centers and developed around what became the garrison town of Bourg-Léopold/Leopoldsburg. The exact soldier and unit depicted in this photograph have not been identified.

The photograph remains clear with good uniform detail. The decorative mat exhibits expected toning and age discoloration while retaining its printed and colored decoration. The ornate frame shows scattered finish loss, oxidation and general age wear. The original-style paper/card backing remains present but shows tears, separation and deterioration around the perimeter. An old handwritten €45 notation is present on the reverse, presumably from a previous dealer or collector.

An excellent original European military display piece with a positively identified Belgian military camp connection and a particularly attractive period presentation.
