Original U.S. Military Leather Frog-Civil War Era/Indian Wars Style
Original U.S. Military Leather Frog-Civil War Era/Indian Wars Style
Offered is an original U.S. military black leather bayonet frog featuring the classic oval “US” embossed front. This style of frog was designed to suspend a socket bayonet from a soldier’s waist belt and is most commonly associated with the U.S. Civil War, though similar patterns continued in service into the post-war Indian Wars period.
The frog is constructed of heavy black bridle leather with hand stitching and retains its original embossed brass “US” insignia on the front. The rear belt loop is intact, though the leather shows heavy field use and age-related wear. The closure strap is present but damaged, and there is loss to the lower front edge, as shown in the photos. Despite the condition issues, it remains an authentic piece of U.S. military equipment with strong display appeal.
This would make an excellent addition to any Civil War, Indian Wars, or early U.S. military equipment collection and pairs well with Springfield or other period socket bayonets.
Condition:
- Original black leather construction.
- Original embossed “US” brass disk.
- Heavy age and service wear throughout.
- Broken/damaged retaining strap.
- Loss to the lower front leather.
- Stitching generally remains intact.
- Solid display piece with honest period character.
