Original World War I era U.S. M1917 steel helmet, commonly known as the “Doughboy” helmet. The M1917 was the American-produced version of the British Mk I pattern and became one of the most recognizable pieces of U.S. equipment from the First World War.

This example retains its complete interior liner assembly, including the black leather liner, padded crown section, adjustment cord, and brown leather chinstrap with hardware. Complete WWI helmets are considerably more desirable than the commonly encountered empty shells, and surviving original liner components add significantly to collector interest. Comparable M1917 helmets retaining their liners and chinstraps continue to be actively sought by WWI militaria collectors. (eBay)

The exterior retains an attractive olive-drab/brown finish with age-appropriate handling wear, scratches, discoloration, and patina. There are no obvious major dents or heavy corrosion visible in the photographs. The liner shows considerable age and wear but remains surprisingly complete, with the leather chinstrap also present. Overall, this is a very displayable, largely complete example that has not been overly cleaned or restored.

A great addition to a WWI U.S. Army, Doughboy, trench warfare, or general military helmet collection.

Condition: Good original WWI condition with honest age and service wear. Liner and chinstrap show deterioration and wear consistent with their age. Please refer closely to photographs for exact condition.
