Original WWII German Deutsche Reichsbahn Travel Pass-1942
Original WWII German Deutsche Reichsbahn Travel Pass-1942
Original World War II Deutsche Reichsbahn (German State Railway) travel pass issued in 1942 for use on the German railway system. This is an exceptional wartime document, completed in period ink and bearing multiple official railway eagle (“Reichsbahn-Direktion”) stamps.
The ticket is a 3rd Class (3. Klasse) round-trip travel pass and is made out to:
Herrn Maximin Lengauer (handwriting difficult to read; best interpretation)
The route includes:
- St. Georgen (Tyrol) to Innsbruck
- Return from Innsbruck to St. Georgen
- Via Saalfelden
The reverse includes an additional authorization:
“Ausnahmsweise am 8. April für D122 gültig.”
(“Exceptionally valid on April 8 for Train D122.”)
The document also carries several official blue Reichsbahn inspection stamps featuring the German national eagle, indicating the pass was authenticated by railway authorities during wartime travel.

Historical Significance
Railway travel was essential to civilian and military movement throughout the Third Reich. Named wartime Deutsche Reichsbahn travel documents with official inspection stamps are considerably scarcer than ordinary tickets, especially examples preserving both travel information and administrative markings. The Tyrol-to-Innsbruck route also reflects transportation through a strategically important Alpine region during the war.
This is an excellent piece of WWII German transportation history and would make a strong addition to any collection of Reichsbahn memorabilia, wartime documents, or German paper ephemera.
