An original World War II German Deutsches Reichssportabzeichen (DRL) Sports Badge in bronze finish, awarded to civilians and military personnel who successfully completed a demanding series of physical fitness requirements. Instituted during the Third Reich, the DRL Sports Badge recognized proficiency in endurance, strength, agility, and athletic performance, making it one of the most recognizable German awards of the era.
This example features the classic oak leaf wreath surrounding the ornate DRL monogram, surmounted by a swastika, all executed in detailed die-struck construction. The reverse retains its original horizontal pin and catch assembly and is maker marked “Wernstein Jena”, along with a DRGM (Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster) patent marking, adding desirable collector appeal.
The badge displays an attractive, untouched patina with honest age and wear, making it an excellent example for collectors of WWII German awards and insignia.
