Original WWII German Military Musicians Lyre Wreath Insignia
Original WWII German Military Musicians Lyre Wreath Insignia
A scarce original World War II German Military Musician’s Lyre Wreath insignia, featuring the traditional lyre surrounded by a laurel wreath, the long-standing symbol of military musicians and regimental bands. During the Third Reich period, variations of the lyre emblem were worn by musicians serving in the Wehrmacht and other military organizations as specialty insignia on uniforms and headgear. The lyre remained the universal symbol of military music and band service throughout the era.
This example is die-struck in lightweight metal with an attractive bronze-toned finish that has developed a pleasing period patina. The raised lyre displays crisp detail within the wreath, making it an appealing display piece for collectors of German militaria, military music history, or specialty branch insignia.
The reverse retains a functional replacement safety-pin style attachment, likely added after the original fastening was lost. While the altered backing prevents it from being completely untouched, the insignia remains an authentic and displayable period piece.
