These are a matched pair of original World War II U.S. Army Air Forces 5th Air Force shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) patches. The iconic design features a gold numeral “5” encircling the famous Fifth Air Force comet with white trailing streaks and the Southern Cross constellation on a dark blue field. The Fifth Air Force was one of the most distinguished American air commands in the Pacific Theater, playing a major role in the campaigns across Australia, New Guinea, the Philippines, and ultimately toward Japan.

Both patches are machine embroidered on dark blue twill with period construction consistent with WWII-era manufacture. They display honest age and light service wear, with one patch showing some loose threads on the reverse from uniform removal. Colors remain vibrant, including the red center and gold embroidery, making them excellent display pieces.

Condition:

  • Original WWII construction.
  • Matching pair.
  • Light uniform removal wear.
  • Strong color retention.
  • No major damage or repairs noted.
  • Displays very well.

These are excellent additions to any WWII Army Air Forces, Pacific Theater, or numbered Air Force collection. Original Fifth Air Force patches remain popular with collectors due to the unit’s association with General George C. Kenney and its significant combat record throughout the Southwest Pacific campaign. Comparable original examples typically retail in the $40–55 range each, depending on construction and condition.

Inventory Note: Sold as a matched pair unless otherwise requested. Great for collectors assembling an original USAAF uniform or Pacific Theater insignia display.
