Featuring Böhler Antinit Special Steel • Roe Deer Horn Trigger Guard • Deep Relief Engraving

This is an outstanding example of a pre-WWII German luxury stalking rifle, hand-built by master gunsmith Robert Schüler. Schüler’s workshop in Suhl, Germany was known for extremely high-grade bespoke hunting arms—but tragically, the Schüler factory was destroyed during World War II, putting an abrupt end to production. As a result, surviving rifles from this maker are exceptionally scarce, especially in this condition.

Key Features & Historical Importance

🔹 Böhler Antinit Special Steel

The barrel is clearly marked “BÖHLER ANTINIT”, a premium Austrian steel alloy prized in the early 20th century for its strength, hardness, and superior pressure tolerance.

Böhler Antinit was an upcharge even on high-end rifles, chosen only by top-tier gunsmiths. Its presence indicates a premium, custom-ordered build, not a catalog-grade hunting rifle.

🔹 Chambered in 8x57 Mauser

One of the finest European hunting cartridges ever produced—flat shooting, accurate, and perfectly suited for deer, boar, and alpine game.

🔹 Genuine Roe Deer Horn Trigger Guard

The trigger guard is crafted from authentic German Roe Deer antler, a traditional luxury feature on upscale stalking rifles from Suhl and Ferlach.

These are highly desirable today because:

  • They were low-production
  • Each guard is unique
  • Many did not survive intact
This piece retains the original horn in excellent condition.

🔹 Double Set Triggers

Crisp German-style double set triggers allow both a normal hunting pull or a feather-light set pull for precision shooting—another premium option.

🔹 Full Coverage German Engraving

This rifle features deep relief hand engraving over the receiver, tang, screws, trigger plate, and forend hardware.

Motifs include:

  • Oak leaves
  • Vine scrolls
  • Rosettes
  • Traditional Suhl ornamental panels

Even the screws are engraved—a signature trait of top-tier German gunsmithing.

🔹 Beautiful European Walnut

The stock shows classic pre-war styling:

  • Bavarian cheek rest
  • Fine line hand checkering
  • Horn (or horn-style) forend tip
  • Remarkably rich figure and finish

🔹 Original German Leather Sling

Period-correct and still intact, adding both authenticity and collector appeal.

Rarity

Because:

  • Robert Schüler produced rifles in very small numbers,
  • Suhl was heavily bombed late in WWII,
  • His workshop and production records were lost,
  • Many early stalking rifles were used hard and did not survive intact—

…examples like this, with original sling, horn guard, engraving, and matching features, are genuinely rare on the U.S. market.
