The Remington 700 Tac-21LA (also called the Remington Model 700 Tactical Chassis or MDT TAC21 variant) in .338 Lapua Magnum is a factory tactical/precision bolt-action rifle introduced around 2013–2014. It pairs the iconic Remington Model 700 long-action receiver with a heavy-contour 26-inch 416 stainless steel barrel with black Cerakote finish, an AAC 51T muzzle brake, and an X-Mark Pro adjustable trigger (factory-set around 3.5 lbs). The key feature is its drop-in installation into the MDT TAC21 (or TAC21LA for long action) aluminum chassis from Modular Driven Technologies (MDT).

The Remington Model 700 itself dates to 1962 and is one of the most successful bolt-action designs ever, serving as the basis for military sniper rifles like the U.S. Army M24 and Marine Corps M40 series. Remington leveraged this heritage to create a more accessible tactical package for civilians and law enforcement. The Tactical Chassis model was unveiled around SHOT Show 2014 as an affordable way to get a modern precision rig without a full custom build. It used the proven 700 action in a free-floated setup within the MDT TAC21 chassis—an anodized aluminum system offering AR-style ergonomics, a full-length 20-MOA Picatinny rail for optics, detachable magazine, adjustable Magpul PRS stock, and modular accessory points. This setup improved accuracy, recoil management, and modularity compared to traditional wooden or synthetic stocks. The .338 Lapua version was the top-tier offering in the lineup (alongside .308 Win and .300 Win Mag variants), designed for extreme long-range performance out to 1,000+ yards. Production was relatively limited, and the model has been discontinued, though the MDT TAC21 chassis remains popular for custom 700 builds.
