Remington 700adl 30-06 Springfield (1979)
The Remington Model 700 ADL in .30-06 Springfield manufactured in 1979 falls into what many collectors and shooters consider one of the “golden era” periods for the Model 700 (roughly mid-1960s through mid-1980s). Here’s a breakdown of what you have or are looking at:
Key Features of a 1979 Remington 700 ADL .30-06
Barrel date code: Look on the left side of the barrel near the receiver. Remington used a two-letter code. For 1979 you’ll typically see:
“MM” = January 1979
“MN” = February 1979
…up to “MZ” = December 1979
(M = 1979, the second letter advances each month)
Receiver: Still the classic long-action 700 with machined front and rear bridge (no J-lock or other later safety features yet).
Trigger: Traditional Remington 700 trigger (non-X-Mark Pro). These older triggers are generally well regarded and very adjustable, though they lack the later “safety enhancements.”
Stock: ADL grade = blind magazine (no floorplate), pressed checkering, black forend tip and grip cap, high-gloss finish on walnut (or sometimes a matte-finished birch stock in later ADL runs). The walnut stocks from this period are usually decent but rarely spectacular figure.
Finish: Deep blued metal with a high-polish gloss finish typical of pre-1980s production.
Barrel: 22" sporter contour, blued. Twist rate is 1:10", which stabilizes everything from 150-gr to 220-gr bullets very well.
