Remington Model 760 Gamemaster .30-06 Springfield – 1953 – Early Production – Undrilled Receiver
Remington Model 760 Gamemaster .30-06 Springfield – 1953 – Early Production – Undrilled Receiver
Early-production Remington Model 760 Gamemaster pump-action rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield, manufactured in 1953, making this a desirable early example of Remington’s classic slide-action centerfire hunting rifle.
This rifle remains in good honest used condition and clearly spent its life as a hunting rifle rather than sitting untouched in a safe. The walnut stock and distinctive grooved walnut forearm show scattered scratches, dings, handling marks and finish wear consistent with decades of field use. The wood remains solid and presents well overall.
The blued steel receiver and barrel retain a good amount of finish with scattered scratches, edge wear and normal age-related finish loss. Importantly for collectors, the receiver has not been drilled and tapped for a scope mount, leaving the rifle substantially closer to its original configuration. Factory iron sights remain in place.
The bore is good, and the rifle retains the classic Model 760 detachable-box-magazine pump-action configuration. The barrel is clearly marked “.30-06 SPRG.” and carries the Remington Arms Co. Ilion, New York markings. The receiver is marked “Remington” and “Gamemaster Model 760.”
Introduced in 1952, the Model 760 became one of Remington’s iconic deer rifles, particularly throughout Pennsylvania and the Northeast. A 1953 example is from only the second year of Model 760 production, giving this rifle additional appeal to collectors of early Remington sporting arms.
This is an attractive, untouched-looking early 760 with the kind of honest hunting wear many collectors prefer. It would make a great addition to a vintage Remington collection or a classic Pennsylvania deer-rifle collection.
