Remington Model 870 Wingmaster 20 Gauge – 1953 Production – Early Wingmaster
Remington Model 870 Wingmaster 20 Gauge – 1953 Production – Early Wingmaster
Early-production Remington Model 870 Wingmaster pump-action shotgun chambered in 20 gauge. Based on the provided information, this example dates to 1953, making it a very early 870 from only a few years after the model’s 1950 introduction.
This shotgun is in good used condition for its age. The blued metal retains a strong overall finish with normal handling and age-related wear. The walnut stock and checkered forearm remain attractive and show scattered scratches, dings and handling marks consistent with a 70+ year-old sporting shotgun. The receiver is correctly marked “Remington Wingmaster Model 870.”
The barrel is marked 20 gauge for 2 3/4” or shorter shells and appears marked MOD, indicating a fixed Modified choke. The early walnut furniture, slim forearm and classic Wingmaster polished-blue finish give this considerably more character than later-production 870s.
A nice early 20-gauge Wingmaster that would fit equally well in a Remington collection or as a classic field shotgun.
