The Ruger P89DC is a discontinued full-size, all-metal 9mm semi-automatic pistol from Ruger's P-series (produced roughly 1989–2009, with the P89 specifically ending around 2007–2009). It evolved from the earlier P85 (designed to compete in 1980s U.S. military pistol trials, though it arrived too late) and its MKII update.

Key Features and "DC" Designation

DC stands for Decocker-only model (no manual safety lever). It uses an ambidextrous decocker lever on the slide to safely lower the hammer from single-action to double-action mode. This makes it a traditional DA/SA pistol: first shot is double-action (heavier pull), subsequent shots single-action (lighter, crisper). Many owners prefer the DC variant over the safety/decocker version for simplicity and trigger feel.

Caliber: 9mm Luger.

Capacity: Typically 15+1 rounds (pre-1994 "high-capacity" models) or 10+1 during the Assault Weapons Ban era. Magazines are double-stack.

Action: Short recoil-operated, Browning-style tilting barrel with a locking system similar to the SIG P220.

Construction: Investment-cast aluminum alloy frame (blued or stainless/KP89 variants) with a steel slide. Built extremely rugged and "tank-like"—heavy, blocky, and over-engineered for durability. It earned a reputation for running reliably with almost any 9mm ammunition.

Sights: Fixed 3-dot white dot system, Upgraded to fiber optic.

Barrel: Approximately 4.5 inches.

Dimensions and Weight: Overall length ~7.75 inches; unloaded weight ~32–32.8 ounces. It's a hefty duty/home-defense gun, not ideal for concealed carry due to size and weight.
