Swiss Model 1882 Schmidt Ordnance Revolver – 7.5mm Swiss – Matching Numbers

Very attractive Swiss Model 1882 Ordnance Revolver, commonly associated with designer Rudolf Schmidt, chambered for the 7.5mm Swiss Ordnance cartridge. These were adopted by the Swiss military in 1882 and manufactured primarily by Waffenfabrik Bern as a high-quality military sidearm. The Model 1882 is a six-shot, double-action revolver and is especially recognizable by its octagonal barrel, distinctive side-mounted ejector system, lanyard ring and finely machined action. 

This example is particularly appealing because the visible serial-numbered components appear to be matching, with serial number 21783 shown on the barrel, frame/cylinder area and internal components. The matching-number aspect is important on Swiss military arms and adds considerably to collector desirability.

Condition is excellent for a military revolver of this age. The blued metal retains a very strong overall appearance with only modest edge wear and handling marks. The cylinder still shows attractive finish and the small parts retain contrasting straw/gold coloration. The wood grips are in very good condition with attractive grain, some honest handling wear and no obvious major cracks or losses. The lanyard ring remains present.
