TC Encore, 300 Win Mag & 22-250
The Encore was developed in the late 1980s and officially introduced by Thompson/Center Arms in 1995 as a successor to the Contender pistol platform. Designed by T/C engineers building on Warren Center's original Contender concept (a basement invention from the 1960s that became a year-round manufacturing staple for the company), the Encore featured a larger, stronger frame to accommodate over 86 cartridge options—from small .22 Hornet to massive .416 Rigby or even .600 Nitro Express in custom pistol barrels. This modularity was a game-changer, allowing one receiver to serve as a "one-gun collection" for diverse pursuits, from varmint hunting to big game.
A key innovation was the Encore's trigger mechanism, which was more robust than the Contender's and facilitated easier break-action opening. The platform quickly gained popularity among hunters for its precision and reliability, with early adopters praising its accuracy in long-range shooting and handgun hunting.
