1954 American Legion National Air Mail Roundup Enameled Wing Pin
1954 American Legion National Air Mail Roundup Enameled Wing Pin
Original 1954 American Legion National Air Mail Roundup wing pin, a distinctive mid-century veterans and aviation-related collectible.
The pin features a spread-wing design with a central American Legion emblem surrounded by blue enamel. A red and white enameled banner across the bottom reads “NATIONAL AIR MAIL ROUNDUP 1954.” The raised feather detail and multi-color enamel give the badge a strong aviation appearance, while the central insignia clearly identifies its American Legion connection.
The reverse retains its original horizontal pin-back attachment. The metal shows substantial age-related patina and oxidation, including green verdigris on the back, while the front retains good detail and much of its original red, white, and blue enamel. Overall it has a very attractive untouched vintage appearance.
The American Legion held National Air Mail Roundup events during the mid-20th century, and surviving dated wing pins are collectible pieces of American Legion, postal, and aviation memorabilia. A comparable 1950 National Air Mail Roundup wing was offered at $60, demonstrating collector interest in the earlier dated examples. (eBay)
A nice addition to an American Legion, aviation, airmail, postal history, veterans organization, or mid-century Americana collection.
Condition: Good original condition with age-related patina, oxidation, enamel wear, and verdigris as shown. Original pin-back hardware remains present.
