Original Leni Riefenstahl Signed 1973 Financial Document-Director of Triump of Will and Olympia”
Original 1973 German financial document bearing a large handwritten signature appearing to be that of Leni Riefenstahl (1902–2003), the controversial German filmmaker and photographer best known for directing Triumph of the Will and Olympia.
Dated February 2, 1973, the typed document concerns payments to Transit relating to accounting for the second half of 1972. It records two payments of DM 7,004.96 and DM 2,000, with notation that payment was made by Hypo-Scheck on February 2, 1973.
Additional period handwritten accounting notations appear in blue ink, including a reference to Mehrwertsteuer (value-added tax) and an amount of DM 243.35. At the lower right is a prominent black-ink signature reading “Leni Riefenstahl.”
Also included is a separate handwritten accounting sheet apparently relating to private expenses or expenditures from 1972. It lists several amounts in Deutsche Marks totaling DM 272.
Riefenstahl remains one of the most significant and controversial figures in 20th-century film history. Her surviving correspondence and business records provide an interesting look at her postwar career and activities decades after the end of WWII.
This is an especially interesting piece because it is not simply an autograph or later signed photograph—it is a period business document with financial content and an apparent working signature, giving it additional historical context.
Condition: Very good overall with expected age toning, light handling wear and minor marks consistent with an original 1970s document. The black-ink signature is bold and clearly visible. Includes both pieces shown in the photographs.
