1858 Central Bank of Pennsylvania $5 Bank Note – Hollidaysburg, PA

Original issued five-dollar bank note from the Central Bank of Pennsylvania in Hollidaysburg, dated June 16, 1858. This attractive pre-Civil War note features detailed agricultural vignettes, a female portrait, prominent red “FIVE” underprinting, handwritten serial number, completed date, and original cashier and president signatures. Printed by Danforth, Wright & Co. of Philadelphia and New York.

The Central Bank of Pennsylvania operated in Hollidaysburg until 1862, making its surviving notes collectible examples of Pennsylvania obsolete currency. This is an issued note rather than the more commonly encountered unsigned remainder.

The note remains complete and displays well, with age-related discoloration, fading, staining, handling wear and a small puncture near the center. The reverse is blank, as originally produced, and shows additional staining or possible old mounting residue. Please examine the photographs carefully for the exact condition.
