Original WWII German Military Photograph-Framed

Large original black-and-white German military photograph, believed to date from the World War II era, circa late 1930s–1945. The photograph depicts two uniformed German servicemen standing with a civilian woman and a large dog on a cobblestone street in what appears to be a German town or village.

Both servicemen are shown in long military greatcoats with field/service caps and visible military belt buckles. The uniform details are consistent with German WWII-period military dress; period U.S. military recognition material documents this general combination of field caps, greatcoats and service belts among German forces. 

The photograph is particularly appealing because it is a full outdoor scene rather than a conventional studio portrait. Numerous period details are visible, including the uniforms, insignia, cobblestone roadway, traditional German architecture and the large dog positioned prominently in the center. The relaxed arrangement of the subjects gives it the appearance of a personal or family photograph taken during wartime rather than an official military photograph.

The exact identities, unit and location are unknown. I would not advertise the men as definitely Luftwaffe from this image alone. Although some visible details may suggest Luftwaffe, the photograph does not provide enough clear insignia detail for me to make that attribution confidently. Luftwaffe enlisted personnel did use distinctive field caps and buckles of the general types seen in period references. 

The photograph remains mounted under glass in an attractive older gilt and black frame with a wide brown mat. The rear retains an old paper/cardboard backing and hanging hardware. Frame and backing show age and storage wear consistent with an older display piece. Photograph itself presents quite well with good contrast and substantial visible detail.
