Vintage Danny Goodman’s Tap Room Chicago Advertising Cards-WWII Boxing Instructor Pair

Original pair of vintage advertising cards from Danny Goodman’s Tap Room, formerly located at 1031 South Wabash Avenue at 11th Street, Chicago, Illinois.

Both cards advertise Danny Goodman as the “Chief Boxing Instructor of U.S. Army During World War” and feature an illustrated soldier holding a rifle. The cards also advertise accommodations for parties, clubs and organizations and list the period telephone number WEBster 1718.

The reverse of each card features a different period humor story:

• Pink card: “The Gold Nugget”
• Cream card: “Do You Know Your Own Ass?”

These are interesting pieces of early Chicago tavern, boxing and military-related advertising ephemera. The connection to a former U.S. Army boxing instructor gives them additional crossover appeal to collectors of boxing memorabilia, Chicago history, tavern advertising and military ephemera.

Both cards show honest age and use, including creasing, surface wear, toning and minor edge wear. The cream-colored example has more pronounced folds and creases. Printing remains strong and legible on both sides. Please see photographs for exact condition.
