Vintage Schrade-Walden Automatic Switchblade Knife Pair-Walden, NY, USA-Matching Push Button Automatics
This outstanding pair of vintage American automatic switchblade knives represents classic Schrade craftsmanship from the golden age of U.S. pocket knife manufacturing. Produced in Walden, New York, these matching push-button automatics feature the same black jigged composition handles, nickel silver bolsters, sliding safety locks, and traditional Schrade automatic mechanism that made these knives famous among collectors. George Schrade’s push-button automatic design became one of the most influential automatic knife mechanisms ever produced in the United States.
Offered together as a matching pair, the set includes:
- Large single-blade automatic utility knife with original bail (lanyard loop)
- Smaller double-blade automatic pen knife
- Matching black jigged composition handles
- Nickel silver bolsters
- Push-button automatic opening
- Sliding safety locks
- Tang marked Walden, N.Y. USA
Both knives remain in very good vintage condition with attractive honest wear from age and use. The blades retain excellent profiles with light sharpening and normal handling marks. The handles are clean and present well, while the nickel silver hardware has developed an attractive vintage patina. These knives have not been over-polished, preserving their collector appeal.
Schrade automatic knives produced in Walden are among the most desirable American switchblades, particularly examples retaining their original configuration. Sets such as this are seldom encountered, making them an excellent addition to an advanced automatic knife collection or early American cutlery display. Schrade’s push-button designs dominated the American automatic knife market for decades before the 1958 Federal Switchblade Act curtailed civilian sales.
